In 1994, Rees Jones restored Donald Ross’s original golf course layout at the East Lake Course, which is now home to the PGA Tour Championship and FedEx Playoffs, and where Bobby Jones learned to play golf. In 1998, East Lake’s old Number 2 course was reconfigured to reach its current layout at the Charlie Yates Golf Course. The ceremonial first drive of the newly designed Yates course was by Tiger Woods and members of East Lake’s Junior Golf Academy.

The course is named after East Lake legend Charlie Yates. Yates grew up in a house on 2nd Avenue, situated between East Lake’s No. 1 and 2 courses. He was the Georgia State Amateur Champion, National Intercollegiate Champion, Western Amateur Champion, British Amateur Champion, a two-time member of the Walker Cup team, and a one-time captain of the US Walker Cup team. Yates, who served as Secretary of Augusta National Golf Club for many years, was the low-scoring amateur at the Masters five times. Charlie’s mentor was Bobby Jones, and they both honed their skills playing golf at East Lake.

Today, Charlie Yates features a beautifully manicured 9 hole golf course designed by renowned architect Rees Jones. Situated in the award-winning East Lake community, the Yates Course is just minutes from downtown Atlanta, Midtown, and Decatur. This exemplary urban golf experience features a driving range, a one-acre chipping and putting area, and a range of camps, clinics, and lessons tailored for beginner golfers, particularly juniors.
