Cleveland CC Announces $1.5M Dining Renovation, New Executive Chef

Cleveland Country Club in Shelby, N.C. has announced an extensive renovation of its interior member dining room and bar, as well as its outdoor terrace dining space.

Upon completion, the dining area will feature a large outdoor courtyard. Comfortable chairs will be seated around tables for two or more people, as well as around fire pits. Couches will be placed outside as well to encourage communal dining and comfortability among patrons.

The inside dining area will feature a large winding bar for both drinking and dining, as well as subtle lighting and café-style seating to help elevate the member experiences in the new casual, but refined setting. COVID-19 guidelines will continue to be followed.

The JPS Building Group of Shelby has been engaged for construction for the project and Lawler Design Studio of Charlotte, N.C. as the design firm.

Accompanying the announcement of the renovation, Cleveland CC also announced that it has brought Zach Anderson on board as the club’s new Executive Chef. Chef Anderson previously worked at The Westglow Resort in Blowing Rock, N.C. He is a graduate of Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute in Hudson, N.C., where he earned his Associate Degree in Culinary Arts.

Chef Anderson began his club career at Cedar Rock Country Club in Lenoir, N.C., before moving on to hold both Sous and Executive Chef positions at the Archer’s Inn and Painted Fish Café restaurants in western North Carolina.

Chef Anderson’s cooking style is predominantly “modern-Southern,” integrating Cajun flavor profiles with seasonal and fresh ingredients.  Signature dishes on Cleveland CC’s new menu introduced under Chef Anderson’s direction include Duck Confit Tacos with charred tomato relish and Seared Mountain Trout with citrus butter. The new menu will also feature items using locally sourced proteins and produce, as well as house-made sauces and dry rubs.

“The addition of Chef Zach is a big step forward in ensuring a top-tier dining experience for our guests,” said Allyson Darling, Cleveland CC’s General Manager. “The enhancements to the dining facility, our revamped menu, and Chef Zach’s expertise will ensure our members receive an unforgettable dining experience at Cleveland Country Club.”

The 93-year-old club was bought by a membership group in the spring of 2019 (https://clubandresortbusiness.com/membership-group-buys-cleveland-cc/). Bobby Jones Links was then selected to be the club’s management firm at the start of 2020 (https://clubandresortbusiness.com/colonial-cc-selects-bobby-jones-links-to-manage-property/).

The renovations to the dining space and addition of Chef Anderson follow other recent improvements at the club, including repainting the tennis courts, resurfacing all clay tennis courts, renovating the bunkers on the golf course and repairing the parking lot.

“Our mission is to revitalize, restore, and reinvigorate this historic club,” said Board President David Teddy. “We understand that members expect to receive an exceptional experience when they enter the club, and that is exactly what they will receive at Cleveland Country Club. These renovations will help improve the member experience and remind members why they choose to remain part of the Cleveland Country Club family year after year.”

Funds for renovations at Cleveland CC have been raised in recent years through the sale of equity memberships as part of a capital funding campaign. The club plans to continue to offer those memberships to raise funds for future improvements, and plans to host hard-hat tours and open houses for prospective members as the latest renovation is completed.
